It was a beautiful day to travel to Launceston for the United Nations Evatt Cup State Finals on 30 September.
Year 10 students Elizabeth Leaver, Isabel Thomas, Penny Tassicker and Nichola Williams were joined with Year 9 students Elizabeth Ettlin, Charlotte Spinks and Thomas Vandenberg to debate the topic “Migrants should have access to employment”. With skilful negotiation and diplomatic etiquette, Penny Tassicker and Nichola Williams were crowned State Champions. Penny and Nichola will be representing Tasmania at the United Nations Evatt Cup National Finals in Adelaide in early December.
Thank you to Mrs Tess McDonagh who shared her skills and talent as an experienced orator throughout the year and helped guide the Marist team to victory.
Penny and Nichola, we wish you all the very best when you debate in Adelaide.
