Our Packages of Learning students participated in a work exposure workshop and on-site opportunity delivered by the Forestry Education Foundation of Tasmania.

The day began with an overview of the Forestry Industry, and career path opportunities available to students including, apprenticeships, traineeships, and a School Forestry Work Experience Program.

This was followed by guided networking tours of Britton Bros Veneer Mill at Somerset, timber displays at UTAS, and the Forico Forestry Mill at Hampshire, where students were exposed to operations and equipment and informed of potential career opportunities in the respective workplaces.

The culminating activity was a visit to a forestry harvest operation near Hampshire where students experienced a working timber coupe and the processes involved in a harvest, as well as viewing enormous and sophisticated heavy machinery in action.

Packages of Learning students and teachers wish to extend their sincere thanks to Darcy Vickers from Forestry Education Foundation, Drew McDairmid from Britton Timbers, UTAS staff, and Paul Sturzaker from Forico for facilitating this awesome opportunity for us to engage with the Forestry Industry and network regarding future work experience prospects.
