Dear Marist Regional College Families,
The Graduation Assembly for Year 12 was undoubtedly a highlight of last week. We kicked off on Tuesday with a dress-up day, followed by the more serious nature of internal assessment “sign-offs” with teachers and a Principal’s morning tea in the Quadrangle on Wednesday. Thursday brought an exciting activities day, starting with a BBQ breakfast and a day in Devonport, culminating in the coast’s biggest slippery slide. We concluded the week with the cherished ritual of the Graduation Assembly and morning tea on Friday.
For our Year 12 students, there are several significant rituals that mark this rite of passage. Our Year 7s were actively engaged, receiving a letter of hope from a Year 12 graduand. The College war cry and the “everywhere we go” exchange between Year 11s and 12s added to the vibrant atmosphere.
My core message to our Year 12s is to “bottle up” all the unique learnings from their time at Marist Regional College. As they continue their journey of character formation, I encourage them to “carry these lessons up the hill” in life. It is essential to acknowledge that life is not easy, and challenges will arise, as those of us who are well-entrenched in their middle ages and beyond can attest! We look forward to gathering again on Friday 22 November for our Graduation Service and Function.
We have already begun transitioning students into the College for next year who require extra support, with Year 7 (2025) Orientation coming up in the following weeks. This will also provide similar experiences for other year level cohorts from Year 7 to 10 as they transition to their respective levels and meet key staff.
In the next edition of the Star, I will share some feedback we received from our recent College survey. I sincerely thank everyone who took the time to complete it. The insights from staff, students, and families are invaluable for planning and implementing the College’s future direction. This is particularly important for a newly appointed Principal in 2025.
Regarding the Principal appointment for next year, I believe the latest advertising campaign sought applicants by last Monday. Please stay tuned for updates in due course.
Best wishes to our Year 11 and 12 students as they prepare for their upcoming exams.
I look forward to the coming weeks with positivity, optimism and excitement!
In the way of Mary
