The Introduction to Nursing & Health Occupation students have just completed their last day working in the UTAS Nursing SIM lab at West Park. Whilst on campus, the students worked on being more confident with their practical skills – taking BP’s, pulse rates, respiratory rates, temperatures, O2 saturations, neurological observations, listening to lung and bowels sounds, and doing basic dressings and bed-making. The students also learnt correct documentation of observations and how to write nursing notes, using the paperwork that is currently utilised at our local hospitals. They were all enjoying the ‘Uni Lifestyle’ and were sad to see it come to an end. This experience opened the students up to the possibilities and pathways within healthcare, and I have no doubt, we will see many of them choose this industry for their future careers.
