NWJFU Girls

Following an undefeated Western-Conference season, the MRC Girls Year 8-10 footy team defeated Sheffield High School at Ulverstone Football Ground 112-2 for the North-West title. With Sheffield a few players short due to sickness and injury, a number of MRC girls pulled on the jumper for both teams, rotating across quarters, which was a generous thing to do. There’s no greater challenge than playing against your mates, but it was a commendable performance and attitude by all players.

The team has now qualified for the Hawks Cup, against champions from the ‘North’ and ‘South’ to be played in the last week of term. Best of luck to the team!

NSATIS Sport

Netball

The 1sts and 2nds Girls teams finished their seasons last week with semi-final losses against St Patrick’s College. It was always going to be a tough assignment, with St Pats having won the last eight NSATIS 1sts titles, and ten NSATIS 2nds titles!

It was a fantastic season by both teams to finish 3rd and 4th on the ladder at the end of the regular season. A big thank you to Ms Bec Cunningham who coached both teams. With a relatively young squad across both teams, the future looks bright for MRC NSATIS Netball.

Soccer

The Girls and Boys teams wrapped up their season in Week 7, with the Girls team ending on a high against Scotch Oakburn College with an 8-0 win (goals to Breanna D and Grace S), and the Boys with a hard-fought but narrow 2-0 loss to St Brendan Shaw College. With a record of 2 wins, a draw and 4 losses in a highly competitive competition, the Boys had their most successful season in recent years. Thank you to Mr Alex Johnstone (Boys) and Mr Grant Sims (Girls) for coaching the teams this year.

Volleyball

The Girls Volleyball finished their NSATIS season having shown some fantastic improvement across the competition. For the last rounds, they were up against the two top teams. In the second-to-last match, the Girls won against the previously undefeated Launceston Christian School, playing some exceptional Volleyball to win 2-1. The momentum unfortunately couldn’t be carried through to their last game, as they went down 2-0 to Leighland Christian School.

Finishing just one-win and percentage behind the finalists was an exceptional achievement. Thank you to Mrs Amanda Johnstone for coaching the team.

SATIS Rep Matches

Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent the NSATIS Representative teams in the recent North vs South Gala Day. These were the best players selected from schools in the NSATIS and SATIS competitions.

Boys Basketball: Hudson B, Mason M – Did not play but were selected: Tyson J, Will G, Bol A

Girls Basketball: Bailie W, Indi-Mae A, Mr Brad Simpson (Coach)

Boys Soccer: Tadhg A

Girls Soccer: Jennifer F – Did not play but were selected: Grace S, Tully P

It was a wet and wild day in Launceston, with a last-minute venue change forced due to a leaking roof and flooded grounds! This did not deter the North as they went on to take the win in every match! The Boys and Girls Soccer both won 3-2, the Boys Basketball won by 1 point, and the Girls Basketball had a convincing double-digit win. Well done to the North, it’s always good to get bragging rights over the South.

NSATIS Sport concludes for the year next week at the SATIS Swimming Carnival in Hobart. Best of luck to all students selected to represent the College.
