Welcome to sport for 2025. It is sure to be another big year with plenty of sport on the agenda commencing from last week.

I am honoured to have taken over as the new College Head of Sport for 2025 and look forward to continuing the work undertaken by Mr Lutwyche over the last few years.

Term 1 will see two carnivals taking place, the Swimming Carnival in Week 2 and the Athletics Carnival in Week 7, with the dates as follows:

  • Junior Swimming Carnival: Thursday 20 February
  • Senior Swimming Carnival:  Friday 21 February
  • Athletics Carnival: Thursday 27 & Friday 28 March

Student signups for the Swimming Carnival occurred on Thursday during House meetings, with more information to be provided to families via Consent2Go. Spectators are welcome to attend the Swimming Carnival at the Burnie Aquatic Centre.

Additional to the College Athletics Carnival, Term 1 will also see the NSATIS and SATIS athletics carnivals take place. Student signups for NSATIS will be advised next week via MEL, with trials to be held after school on Tuesday 25 February and Thursday 27 February (Week 3). The 3000m trials will be held during lunchtime on Tuesday 11 March (Week 5). SATIS participants will be selected from their performances at the NSATIS carnival. More information will be provided to families once the team has been finalised.

NSATIS Basketball and Tennis commenced this week, with three teams entered in each competition. The Boys 2nd Tennis team opened their account with a 4 to 2 victory over St Brendan Shaw at home on a hot Wednesday afternoon. Then our Girls 1st and Boys 2nd Basketball teams travelled to St Brendan’s on Thursday afternoon, with the girls going down 91-46 against a strong opposition, before the boys came from behind to win 63-52.

More NSATIS sports will commence late in Term 1 and early Term 2. Students should monitor MEL for signup notifications and commencement dates.

The College will again be sending a boys and girls basketball team to the Marist Schools Australia (MSA) competition to be held in Melbourne during late March and early April. Initial information was provided to families late last year, with further details to be provided via Consent2Go in due course.
