High School Girls Finals Day – Football

On Wednesday 7 September, our High School Girls Football teams travelled to Penguin to play in the NWJFU Regional Finals. Our Year 7/8 Team played a great game; however, it was not meant to be. Latrobe High School kicked a point on the siren to win the Grand Final by 1 point. The girls played in great spirits and enjoyed the day.

For our 9/10 team, it was another dominant display of football. With our talented group defeating Devonport High School 101 – 6 to win the regional premiership. The 9/10 team progressed through to the Tassie Hawks Cup state final.

Congratulations to Eliza Dennis (Year 8) and Olivia Pringle (Year 9) for being awarded best on ground for MRC in their respective grand finals.

Tassie Hawks Cup – Launceston

Following from the regional premiership, our Year 9/10 team travelled to Launceston to compete in the Tassie Hawks Cup State Final on Tuesday 13 September. The girls won their first game against Queechy High School and progressed through to the Grand Final where they meet Clarence High School. In a very high contested game, Clarence High School came out on top and declared state premiers with MRC finishing runners up.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and staff for their work in the girl’s football roster.

NSATIS Athletics Carnival – Penguin

On Thursday 8 September, MRC’s Athletics team consisting of 80 students, travelled to the Penguin Athletics Track for the NSATIS Meet. Although the weather was not ideal, students had a great day and competed strongly. With many MRC students finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd across the track and field events.

NSATIS Sport Update (Netball, Soccer & Hockey)

NSATIS Rosters for 2022 concluded on Wednesday 14 September. With our Boys and Girls Hockey teams completing their roster. With this, the boys team finished 1st on the ladder and progressed through to the SATIS Hockey Final which was played on Wednesday 21 September in Hobart.

Our Boys Soccer and Netball 1sts team travelled to Launceston to compete in their respective Semi-Final match ups against St Patrick’s College. Unfortunately, after a great roster for both teams, they went down to St Pat’s and ended their season.

North-West Catholic Football Game Series – Game 2

The 2nd game of the North-West Catholic Rep Series (made up of MRC and SBSC players) was played on Monday 19 September in beautiful conditions at Girdlestone Park, East Devonport. The Year 7/8 team faced off against Scotch Oakburn College and had a commending win, defeating SOC 133-1.

Unfortunately, the 9/10 team were unable to play their 2nd game due to St Patrick’s becoming unavailable.

Well done to all selected players on their performances; the North-West Coast was represented with great pride.

Boys SATIS Hockey Final – Hobart

On Tuesday 20 September, our Boys NSATIS Hockey team travelled to Hobart in preparation for the SATIS Final on Wednesday 21 September. The boys played Guilford Young College in a high standard game, however, went down to a strong senior Guilford side. The final result being 11-2.

High School Netball Championships Tournament – Year 7/8

On Friday 23 September, I accompanied two Year 7/8 Netball teams to the State High School Netball Championships – North-West Heats at the Ulverstone Sports Centre. Marist White was in Pool B and Marist Blue was in Pool A. All students played really well against some strong opposition. All students demonstrated our Marist values and were outstanding representatives of our school. I especially want to congratulate Sophie Vandenberg who, while playing a game, showed an opposition player what part of the court she should be on. This was a lovely example of sportsmanship. After the round robin was completed, Marist Blue topped their pool and Marist White came second in their pool. This meant they played off against each other in the finals. Both teams played really well, and it was a competitive match. Marist BIue won the game and are now off to Hobart for the state finals in Term 4. Thank you to Emma Dent who coached the Marist White team and Kelly Elphinstone who coached the Marist Blue team. I would also like to thank the many parents who made the trip to Ulverstone to support both teams and who helped out with scoring on the day – Helen Cox
