Year 8 students enjoyed a range of Japanese cultural activities for our Matsuri Festival on Monday 4 July. Activities included cooking bird-shaped Hato Sabure (Japanese Butter Cookies), taste-testing traditional tea and snacks, the Way of the Weapons, watching Karate Kid, making Ema (Wish Boards), building box trays which were then used to create mini Zen Gardens, colouring paper masks, building mini brick sets, creating origami shapes, playing with traditional wooden toys and jigsaw puzzles, and Tumi Ishi (Zen Balancing Blocks). A great way to celebrate a term’s worth of learning about Shogunate Japanese history and culture in Global Connections.
