Nichola Williams, a Year 11 student, recently completed the Australian Science Institute’s Curious Minds program. The program is designed to provide Year 10 and 11 girls from regional areas with greater access to STEM education.

Nichola participated in a four-day camp in December, where she met knowledgeable tutors and like-minded STEM enthusiasts. Additionally, she took part in an eight-month coaching program where she worked with a STEM professional to create a project that was shared with her fellow Curious Minds peers. Nichola’s project explored the factors that affect electrolysis.

She recently attended a week-long camp at ANU in Canberra, where she participated in various STEM sessions, visited the Mt Stromlo Observatory, built a car, met Dr Cathy Foley, Australia’s Chief Scientist, and made many new friends.

Nichola highly recommends the Curious Minds program to any Year 9 or 10 girls interested in STEM. Applications are typically available in October, so stay curious and be ready to apply!
