Dear Families,

Please see some snapshots from around the College as we near the halfway mark of the Term.

Social Media

Our College has a relentless and unwavering commitment to an outstanding social culture and is a leading learning environment for the region.

Strong, fair, responsive, and pastoral leadership is required to advance school communities in a time where society and social media presents counter-cultural messages that undermine everything this College represents.

I would encourage you to continue having ongoing conversations with your child about the responsible use of social media. Only too often do we see that adolescents are ill-equipped to effectively respond in challenging situations in online environments.

If you note online behaviours that do not align with our College values, please report them to our Year Level Coordinators. I would encourage you to think about these instances as a duty of care to not only your child, but to those involved and your child’s cohort and community.

Your parental role and partnership is vital to keeping our children safe. Furthermore, we share a concern with many families relating to the exposure of inappropriate content which can be detrimental to the formation of our young people.

We are in the process of establishing a clear developmental program relating to social media education for both parents/guardians and children. Please expect to see details of opportunities to be involved in Term Three.

Father John Girdauskas – 40 Years of Priesthood

Congratulations to our Parish Priest, Fr John, who this weekend celebrates 40 years of ordination. We thank Fr John for his leadership, friendship, guidance and involvement at the College. We are extremely fortunate to have this important relationship with him. Please join us on Sunday morning at Mass at Star of the Sea from 10am to celebrate. A morning tea with refreshments will follow.

Middle Years Literacy Intervention

Our Literacy Intervention Program is in full swing for Term Two. We planned for implementation in 2021, delivered in 2022 and have further refined for 2023. The program is designed by Macquarie University.

Please see our results from last year below. We look forward to more great results after further refinement and improvement.

In partnership,

Mr Gregg Sharman
