Dear Marist Regional College Families,

As we approach the midpoint of the year, I am delighted to share and celebrate the many accomplishments of our students and staff.

Social Justice Leadership Initiatives

A special recognition goes to the students who have travelled to Bendigo last week, and Hobart this week, for social justice leadership initiatives. Your commitment to social justice and leadership is inspiring. I extend my gratitude to Mrs Caroline Brett, Mrs Emma Dent, and Mr Peter Douglas for their exceptional organisation and support in making these initiatives a success.

NWJFL Finals Success

Firstly, I extend my hearty congratulations to our Marist Year 7/8 and 9/10 football teams for their outstanding performance and representation in the NWJFL finals. Your dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship have made us all immensely proud.

Eisteddfod Excellence

We wish to congratulate all students who have represented Marist Regional College in the recent school eisteddfods. Your hard work and talent in the arts continue to showcase the vibrant and diverse spirit of our community.

International Chemistry Olympiad: Well Done Penny for Representing Australia

We are delighted to announce that Penny Tassicker has been selected to represent Australia in the International Chemistry Olympiad, which will take place from 21 to 30 July 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of her dedication and hard work.

The Olympiad students recently celebrated their accomplishments at the 2024 Australian Olympiad Teams Announcement ceremony, held on Monday, 24 June, at Parliament House. It was a memorable event that highlighted the students’ exceptional efforts.

Congratulations and best of luck to Penny!

Upcoming School Ski Trip

We eagerly look forward to the upcoming school ski trip to Queenstown, New Zealand. A big thank you to Mr Wayne Gale, our Ski Trip Coordinator, and the accompanying staff, Miss Alex Seaton, Mr Toby Skene, and Mrs Chelsea Gale, for their efforts in preparing for this exciting adventure. I am personally excited to join the group in New Zealand and share in this experience.

Senior College Students’ Efforts

To our Senior College students, I hope you have all given your best efforts during your mid-year exams. With only 12 weeks of face-to-face learning and teaching time remaining from this point, it is crucial to stay focused and dedicated to your studies.

Frozen: The Musical – Responding and Providing Volunteer Support

Thanks to the following members of the MRC Community for volunteering their time and energy on Sunday to paint sets with our Frozen Director, Ms Jess Magee: Mr Ian Wild, Mrs Heather Wild, Mrs Caroline Brett, Mr Peter Brett, Ali Brett, Maddison Barry, Abbie Parsons, and Ava McCulloch. Thank you so much for helping!

Fee Assistance

Please be reminded of the letter sent from my office last week. I encourage you to reach out to myself, or our Business Manager, Mr Andrew Leary (aleary@mrc.tas.edu.au), if the cost of living is too much at this time, and you are struggling with fees. I received fee assistance as a student whilst attending this college; we are here to help you.

Staff Appreciation and Mid-Year Break

I extend my deepest thanks to all our staff for their tireless efforts in Mid-Year reporting, exam preparation, and their support of our students throughout the year. Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed. I wish everyone a restful and rejuvenating break as we prepare for the second half of the year.

Warm regards,

Gregg Sharman
