During the Term 2 school holidays, a group of students travelled with Mrs Owens and Mrs Ryan to the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation to participate in NAIDOC week celebrations.

Students engaged in a number of activities as part of the NAIDOC event, supporting First Nations communities and participating in celebrating one of Earth’s oldest living civilisations.

It was a pleasure to witness the respect for community, land and food with Marist students having meaningful conversations and interactions. Students immersed themselves in several activities including a welcome-smoking ceremony, clap stick making, interacting with reptiles and a tasting trail. Foods included everything from green ants to saltbush to native-ingredient ice creams and seafood, along with well-known local delicacies such as mutton bird and whitebait patties.

The students represented Marist with all the school values and were a pleasure to have on the trip.
