The MRC Cross Country results were announced at a recent assembly with McAuley taking out the trophy as the winning house. Congratulations to students selected in the MRC All-Schools Cross-Country team. Best of luck to all travelling to Symmons Plains on Tuesday 20 June.

The NWJFU Boys Football season moves towards the end of the season at the end of Term 2.

In the 7/8 competition, the two MRC teams played each other in a spirited match. Whilst the Year 8’s took the win, and remain undefeated heading into finals, it was a much closer and competitive match than the scoreboard indicated.

The 9/10 team had a challenging and physical game against the visiting Smithton team, but managed to come out on top 10.12.72 to 4.4.28, and then followed that up with a win over rival Burnie High 11.9.75 to 4.7.31. The team has 1 game left before cross-conference finals against the Eastern conference.

The new Girls NWJFU 7-10 competition kicked off with MRC hosting Smithton. It was a strong performance by our team with MRC winning 10.13.73 to 2.3.15 in a competitive outing, with a number of girls in the team playing their first games of football.

Students who missed out on signing up for Term 3 Sports can contact Mr Lutwyche or Ms Saward
for competition information. Term 3 sports include NSATIS Hockey, Soccer and Netball.

Netball Trials for the Alan Hudson Cup (7/8 and 9/10), Tasmanian High School Championships (7/8 and 9/10) and NSATIS (8 to Senior College) will take place on Monday 19 June in the Harcombe Centre. Students have been emailed details.

SATIS and NSATIS Football Reports

The Boys and Girls teams finished up their seasons against Launceston Grammar. Please see below the match reports as supplied by team Captains.

NSATIS Boys v Launceston Grammar – MRC

Report by Captain Jonte Dixon

Launceston Grammar 6.8.44 def MRC 3.4.22

On 31 May we played a fifth and final game of school footy against Launceston Grammar at Marist. It was a hard-fought game all the way to the very end with Grammar winning by only 20 points. Players player for this week was Ky Robotham who dominated all day for the home side and was the major ball winner in the midfield for us. Plenty of positives to take out of this week and the fact that we can compete against some of Tasmania’s best players.

With the season now over, many thanks from the team goes to Coach Mr X Williams, Assistant Mr B Simpson and Mr J Ling for looking after the team throughout the season.

Goal Kickers: T. Hope, J. Dixon, K. Robotham

Best Players: J. Stubbs, J. Dixon, Z. Spinks, K. Robotham, J. Little, F. Peach

NSATIS Girls v Launceston Grammar – Match abandoned due to weather

Report by Captain Darah Grey

On Wednesday afternoon, the Marist Girls football NSATIS team travelled to Launceston to compete in the last rostered NSATIS game for the year, in a competitive match against Launceston Grammar. The weather did not hold up for us to say the least. Both teams headed out into the pouring rain and windy game day conditions, in an attempt to make the travel worthwhile and have a good game of football! The wet weather in the first half of the game definitely threw us off our game with Grammar making quick adjustments to the conditions which was evident in their overall strong game. Unfortunately, due to significant water on the ground making it unsafe, the game was called off at half time.

The team would like to thank Mr Skene, Ms Saward and Ms Clayton for helping coach or assist with the games throughout the roster.

It was a young MRC team playing this year, with only 2 Senior College students in the team. Even though the team didn’t achieve excellent results this year, there is confidence that because of the experience the younger girls had, the future of girls football at MRC is bright.
