Cross Country / All Schools

A reminder that the MRC Cross Country Carnival is taking place this term on Monday 27 May (Week 5, Day 1).

Students in Years 7 – 10 are currently undertaking training as part of their HPE program, and information about the event will be circulated to families shortly.

All students finishing in the top 5 for their year level (plus a reserve) will be selected to represent MRC at the All-Schools and NSATIS Cross Country event at Symmons Plains on Thursday 13 June. There is also a random draw prize for every student who participates in the MRC carnival, with two movie tickets being awarded per grade. We look forward to students giving their best effort for their House.

NSATIS Basketball

Congratulations to the Boys 1st NSTATIS Basketball team who recently won the Championship over Scotch Oakburn, making it back-to-back titles. In front of a crowd of around 300 students, who witnessed a see-saw affair. MRC jumped out of the blocks with a 24-17 lead at quarter time, only to be trailing at half time by 31-36. It was a tense final quarter with MRC holding their nerve to win 83 – 69. Leading scorers were Will G (24 points), Mason L (24 points) with two big dunks, and Tyson J (17 points). The team will host Guilford Young College for the SATIS Final.

The Girls NSATIS Basketball team travelled to the undefeated St Brendan Shaw College for their final, and got the jump with an excellent first half, leading 29-16. Unfortunately, a number of fouls to key players kept SBSC in it, and they ended up taking the win 42-54. Leading scorers for MRC were Indi A (14 points) and Bailie W (12 points). It was a young team, and coach Mr Simpson is buoyed by the future opportunities for the team to be in the mix again next year.

SATIS Tennis

The Boys SATIS Tennis team took on The Hutchins School at Burnie Tennis Centre in Week 1. It was an extremely high level of tennis, with 5 current state representatives across the two schools. There were some nail-biting matches, with both the firsts doubles and first singles going down to tie-breakers. Unfortunately, MRC went down 1 rubber to 5, but all the boys can hold their heads high for what was some high-quality tennis played. Well done to Ethan C who took the singles rubber for MRC.

The 9/10 team had a win against Parklands High in their first game.

The Year 8 team (MRC Navy) also played Parklands High and had a big win: 18.11.119 to 0.4.4

BNA Netball

Well done to the 8 MRC teams who kicked off the Winter BNA Season on the weekend. Grading has been completed by BNA and participants and families are reminded to keep an eye on the BNA Facebook page weekly for the Saturday draw.

I am looking for a couple more Year 9 or 10 students to join a team. If you missed out and would still like to play, please get in touch!
