Our VET Hospitality and Cookery students recently spent four nights and 5 days at Tall Timbers completing work placement as part of practical assessment outcomes for two qualifications: SIT20416 Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality. Students worked rostered shifts in 6 different front and back of house locations, including shifts in maintenance, to give our students a broad understanding of the hospitality and tourism sectors and what actually goes on behind closed doors (and in front too!). The practical experience gained from living on the premises, working shifts from 7am through to 9pm (depending on different areas) gave our students authentic and valuable skills and knowledge. Work placement is a term used when practical applications are assessable and a mandatory component of a qualification. Students were evaluated throughout each day by Miss Jen Reeves and Ms Marisa Licandro, and completed single and double shifts to gain a credible understanding of the industries and the realities of work. Mr John Dabner and all the staff at Tall Timbers supported students (one-on-one supervision) and took the time, the patience, and dedication needed for our students to learn high end standards and tasks. The incredible support from Tall Timbers is extremely appreciated, and we look forward to continuing our long-term association to mentor and train the next generation of workers and support our students in their career pathways.
