Year 9 students have been studying Christian Charity – Head, Heart, and Hands this term in Religious Education. Students have been learning about the virtue of charity, as well as the calling for Christians to be charitable in their interactions with and support of others. We have examined scripture references encouraging charity and historical instances where people have shown the virtue of charity. We have also looked at charity in other major religious traditions. During Term Three, students have been working on a variety of formative assessments to show their understanding of Christian charity.

We were fortunate to have guest speaker Bronte Hughes from St Vinnies in Burnie visit the College to speak with Year 9 students about the work of St Vinnies in our local area, as well as further afield, as part of our unit. Bronte delivered her presentation to all Year 9 classes on Tuesday 17 September. She shared various ways St Vinnies help those in need, especially those in our local community.

It was fantastic to see how our actions can have a real-life, positive impact on people in our local community and beyond. We appreciate Bronte taking the time to teach our Year 9 students about practical ways local people can show the virtue of compassion.
