Subject Selection/VET Expo Night 

You are invited to attend our Subject Advice/VET Expo Night.  This event is open for all students currently in Years 7 to 11 who will shortly be selecting their subjects for 2023. Please note links to Subject Selection Guides with more information are below. 

When: Tuesday 16 August 2022  

Time: 3:30pm to 7:30pm

Where: Marian Centre (upstairs & downstairs) & the Cradle Coast Trade Training Centre. 

This is an opportunity to: 

  • Find out more about the subjects on offer in 2023 
  • Speak to Subject Teachers, Learning Area Leaders and Heads of Departments 
  • Learn more about Senior College, the TCE and Career Pathways 
  • Learn more about Vocational Education & Training (VET) programs 
  • Ensure that students make the best choices when selecting subjects online. 

Organisations that will be present on the night, located in the Cradle Coast Trade Training Centre will be: 

  • Tasmania Police  
  • Australian Defence Force 
  • University of Tasmania  
  • MAS National 

Guest Speaker 

Come along and listen to industry MAS National guest speaker, Hope Wooldridge, who will be presenting information sessions in Cloud 9 about School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships at the chosen timeslots: 4.00 – 4.30pm / 4.30 – 5.00pm / 5.00 – 5.30pm / 5.30 – 6.00pm. Please indicate your interest by clicking here. 

Discussions will include the following: 

  • Industry perspective & prospects 
  • Obtaining your TCE, while completing a School-Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship 
  • Resume writing for employers 
  • Literacy and numeracy skills 

Next Steps following Subject Advice/VET Expo Night 

Wednesday 17 August – Subject Selection Portal Opens 

Students will be emailed a unique link during Pastoral Care time which takes them to an online subject selection platform (Web Preferences). 

Students can do their preferences at this time, or choose to do this at home. Students should select electives (including reserves) in order of preference. This is important as subjects are assigned according to this order.  

NOTE: You can only enter your selections twice, so make sure you have a clear plan before you start. 

Friday 19 August – Subject Selection Portal Closes 

Students should print two copies of the online subject selection receipt (one to keep). 

By Monday 22 August – Subject Selection Receipt due to Pastoral Care Group Leader 

Hand in one copy of your Subject Selection Receipt to your PCGL 

  • Please sign the receipt yourself. 
  • Please have your parent/guardian sign the receipt as well. 

Food as well as hot and cold beverages will be available for purchase on the night from Café 9, which will be operated by students who are being assessed on the evening.
