Dear Marist Regional College Community,

Year Seven Camp 2024

Greetings from Camp Banksia, Port Sorell, as I write this edition in the early morning! Our Year Seven students are currently immersed in an enriching experience that exemplifies the essence of our College values: hospitality, respect, justice, compassion, and responsibility. It’s heartening to witness our students embodying these values, making us proud and grateful for their wonderful display of character.

As our students engage in various activities at Camp Banksia, I am reminded of the tremendous support we receive from our feeder schools, families, and dedicated staff members who contribute to the seamless transition of our students into the Marist community. Together, we foster an environment where every individual can thrive and grow. I have a strong passion for birth to adulthood Catholic education and the impact it can have on our growth and formation.

Thank you to our staff who dedicate themselves to overnight camps at MRC. This does not happen in every school, with the staff spirit and their togetherness on display, again, is heart-warming.

Student Representative Council

In the spirit of student leadership and representation, our Student Representative Council recently participated in their commissioning assembly. This platform allows our student leaders to step into their roles with enthusiasm and commitment, serving as beacons of inspiration for their peers. I meet with our College Captains and Co-Captains on a fortnightly basis to hear from them about what they are noticing around the College as well as to utilise them as a sounding board.

NAPLAN

On another note, I want to remind parents of Year 7 and 9 students about the upcoming NAPLAN Testing this month. Please refer to the emails sent home previously for detailed information and preparation tips.

EALD: English as an Additional Language/Dialect

In our commitment to inclusivity and support for all students, I am pleased to announce a position vacant for an English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) teacher. This role aims to better cater to the needs of many students for whom English is not their first language spoken at home. We believe in providing every student with the resources and support necessary for their academic success.

Under the leadership of our Director, Ms Bekk Taylor, our Student Support services will continue to be a top priority. Ensuring that every child receives the best possible support remains at the forefront of our mission.

Circular Head and Stanley Bus Services

I’d like to extend my gratitude to Mr Andrew Leary, our Business Manager, for his collaboration with families from Circular Head, particularly those from Stanley, in addressing issues related to bus services. Your dedication and efforts are truly appreciated.

As we strive for equitable services for all students, I will be engaging with our members of parliament to address the current legislation prioritising students from DECYP schools. It’s crucial that the positive impact our college has, both regionally and beyond, is recognised and reflected in the services provided to all school students, irrespective of their educational background.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in our journey towards educational excellence and holistic development for every student at Marist Regional College. The commencement of 2024 has been extremely positive with a high degree of confidence and morale.

In partnership
