Last weekend, our U/14 and U/16 Rugby 7’s teams travelled to Hobart for the 2023 Rugby Tour. The boys have had limited opportunities to play this year but have trained enthusiastically all season. We kicked off the tour on the Friday night playing in the Tas Rugby Junior 7’s competition, held at Rugby Park. The U/14’s played 2 games against teams from St Virgil’s College, winning both of these games. The U/16’s played Kingston High School, narrowly losing by 1 point, and their second game against St Virgil’s College, winning 17 nil. We stayed overnight in Hobart and were hosted by The Hutchins School on Saturday with both of the teams playing two games against the Hutchins 7’s teams. These games were all very closely contested with the U/16’s winning both games and the U/14’s being defeated in one and winning the other. In the true spirit of rugby, Hutchins then provided us with a BBQ, refreshments and presented our captains and our MVP’s with a gift.

The boys were complimented on their skill and knowledge of the game, how well they presented themselves and spoke afterwards with special mention given to Patrick Reilly. I would like to congratulate the boys on another successful season of rugby and look forward to the MRC Rugby Club growing in numbers in the coming years.

Special thanks to Kurt Weaver from SBSC who joined the trip, Mr Tom Lutwyche for joining and supporting the tour, Shaun Killian from The Hutchins School, and the Tasmanian Rugby Union for organising the fixtures and the venue.
