The Basketball Tasmania High School Championships took place over the weekend of 25 and 26 of November. Eighty students across 9 MRC teams took part, so it was a very large cohort representing the College. Significant results were achieved by the 7/8 Division 1 Girls who narrowly lost to SBSC in the final, and the 7/8 Boys Division 1 team who finished third. Both of these teams qualified to the State Championships which take place in Launceston on 9 and 10 of December. Best of luck to those teams! Congratulations also to the 7/8 Boys Division 2 team who finished runner up in their division.

Thank you to all parents and supporters who assisted with coaching teams, refereeing and bench duties. These weekends and opportunities cannot occur without your support.

The BNA Spring Roster wrapped up at the end of November – with nine MRC teams participating, it was a big season for our teams. There were several MRC teams that made the Grand Finals. Congratulations to MRC Black (A2/A3) who def. Circular Head in extra time. Best in Final was Alexis D. MRC Blue (B1) narrowly lost to BHS White. Best in final Olivia W. MRC Light Blue went down in extra time to Penguin.

A big thank you to parents and students who coached, umpired, and helped deliver another fantastic season for MRC teams.

Forty MRC students were among almost 600 that competed in the North West Schools Triathlon event. Jack L won the Senior event, and there were other significant results from Oscar D – 3rd place in Year 7, and the Year 8 girls’ team who also finished top 3.

That wraps up sport for 2023, with planning for a busy Term 1 in 2024 already underway. Starting early in Term 1, there will be NSATIS Basketball and Tennis, along with the MRC Swimming and Athletics Carnivals.

Congratulations to all students who have represented, participated and supported MRC in 2023. Thank you also to the families who support their students in representing the College on the sporing arena.
