VET is in a fantastic position this year with students choosing from a large variety of competency-based short skill set courses and full qualifications.

New vocational courses are emerging and are tailored to meet the demands of rapidly evolving industries. We have worked hard with St Brendan Shaw College (SBSC) to provide exciting courses. One example is a double qualification in Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) and Certificate II in Sustainable Energy (Career Start) offering intensive training in electrical analysis, visualisation, and interpretation. Sustainable Energy is responding to the growing demand for clean energy solutions. Hands-on experience with renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, technologies and sustainable design principles will assist students for careers in solar, wind, and other green industries.

Certificate II in Animal Care is another new qualification offered at SBSC in a cluster arrangement with other schools. The trainer is a professional veterinarian, bringing a wealth of knowledge, skills, and practical currency to our students. Several industry excursions have been organised which will provide exposure to their chosen field, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This is a foundational program providing essential skills for entry-level positions into the animal care industry. It serves as a stepping stone for further education and career advancement in animal related fields.

Overall, these new vocational courses bridge the gap between education and employment by offering targeted training in high-demand fields, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s competitive job market.

There is so much more to come…stay tuned!
